About Me
Hello. I am Dr. Christina Bayens. I am a clinical psychologist who focuses on treating anxiety disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. I am licensed in the states of Kentucky and Indiana, but I hold an e-passport issued by PSY-PAC, which allows me to practice interjurisdictionally in most other states. Check your state here.
I am a member of multiple organizations, including :
American Psychological Association (APA)
Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA)
International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)
Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP)
National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists (NBCCH)
I am certified in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) by ACEP, Clinical Hypnosis by NBCCH, and in PSYCH-K, an emerging energy practice working with the subtle energies of the subconscious.
I am continually learning about cutting-edge research and the most effective medical, psychological, and spiritual treatments for my clients.
I received my undergraduate degree from Murray State University. I double-majored in Psychology and Fine Arts. I remained at Murray State to complete my Master's in Psychology. My thesis investigated the amount and type of information required to alter negative or positive impressions of individuals.
I received my Doctorate in Psychology in 2009 from Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology in Louisville, Kentucky. My area of focus was within the Child, Adolescent, and Family track, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders. For my dissertation, I researched and developed a program designed for adolescent girls and their fathers to enhance communication and foster a positive relationship during the transitional years of adolescence. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at The Brook Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in Louisville. While there, I received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of trauma-based disorders, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) for children, adolescents, and women, and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
In addition to my clinical work, I have held the position of adjunct professor at Indiana University Southeast and Spalding University’s Accelerated Adult Program. I have supervised doctoral students at Spalding and continue to supervise Licensed Psychological Associates as they begin their careers. My clinical work has been primarily in private practice in both Kentucky and Indiana. At the beginning of 2020, the opportunity arose for me to establish my own practice, focusing on clients who are motivated and ready for change.
On a more personal note, I am actively involved as a merchandiser and buyer at Cooking at the Cottage, a cooking school and cookware store that my parents, Mark and Linda Bayens, opened in 2010. When I'm not working, I try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and gardening. I also love to create, whether it's growing flowers or tomatoes in the garden, painting portraits, or cooking up new and exciting recipes in my kitchen. I have an active and growing home yoga practice and am eager to learn more about Eastern medicine and philosophy for personal development and as part of my clinical work.
